Any potential reader should keep this one paragraph on p. 259 in mind, as it best encapsulates this fascinating, if sometimes frustrating, work, one I couldn't put down and read in just two consecutive days:"...my clever way of keeping a great deal of my intimate private life very private while still entertaining the masses with m y conversation. See, everyone wants me to name drop, give details, and tell sexual stories. That's not how I roll; I have the info, but it is highly guarded."Thus, she mentions her love of basketball, but there is NOTHING in the book about her every actually playing any basketball, esp. in High School. No discussion of any HS sports. Just skipping classes, smoking weed, working at a diner, and getting picked up in a bar by cops in NJ.And sometimes the order of events seems odd, esp. since the use of dates is quite selective (but always appreciated when she supplies a specific date, even if it is just a year!). Thus on p. 240 she buys a house in LA to be able to work for LA Direct, but on p. 270 she talks about needing to stay in the Valley or at the "Model House" or with "talent". Why, when she has 2 houses, one in LA and one in Huntington Beach? Or on p. 313 she throws out of the blue that she has been doing a SIRIUS XM radio show for some time, but never set up the beginning NOR does she really say much about her radio career. And the "sex injury" on p. 333 with "1984" (year of his birth) "happened just before Palin" but "Palin" was on pgs. 289-318.In the current COVID pandemic I read Lisa Ann Corpora's book immediately after reading Victoria Lynch's very similar autobiographical work from 2000, The Secret Lives of Hyapatia Lee (in a small paperback edition). That work covers the adult film industry from 1983-1993 while LAC's covers it from 1994-97 and then from about 2005-2014. LAC's book is almost a "sequel" of sorts to HL's. But where HL saw the VHS era as a huge step down from the earlier high budget film era, LAC sees here early VHS era as a high point in relation to the later internet/DVD era of handheld HI DEF gonzo porn. Both were hard-working strippers. LAC's book is a bit broader in that she spent time in the talent agency side, which is probably the MOST PAINFUL part of the book, that period where she worked for "Ben English" (Derek Hay of LA Direct Models).Do be aware that LAC only really talks briefly about two, just 2, sex scenes in any detail. Her very first, with TT Boy, where she can watch either the Hollywood sign in the Hills or see the crew watching her, on pgs. 137-138 . And then her one "violent" scene with James Deen, rough anal in a concrete room with steel chair, on p. 325.But as she admits her sexual appetite for younger men and men she likes and sports-related men is voracious. We get brief mentions of them with few details.The book shines best as "book" during the times of her marriage and while running the spa after her first porn era ends. Here we get a sense of the more "real" LA, the one who cooked meals for her man and fought cockroach infestations at the spa. But we only meet a couple of men we might consider "friends", though one is her "best date ever (BDE)" (p. 315-317), another a Notre Dame student made infamous at a pre-season Knicks game with LAC (pgs. 327-329), and an OSU student who gets to spend quality time with LAC, at two AVN awards ceremonies and on his campus & in his classes, because he snuck a double-entendre sign into an ESPN-televised event (pgs. 334-340). We only really meet one female civilian friend, a wonderful hairdresser named Shelly (p. 234).And thankfully she does NOT shy away from discussing her parents, and her older brother, both before and during her porn careers. Something you don't expect in such a memoir.The low-point of the book for me was on p. 256: "I molded myself into it [new world of porn talent agency work], limited the amount of evil things I would go along with, and fell nicely into the groove of my new career [after selling off her spa, Karma]." But she also admits to a lesbian affair during her marriage (p. 208), serious psychologically-related psoriasis issues (p. 275), bad decisions related to having sex with lots of young performers off camera (p. 330), and at the end, in a section settling scores, "I went on an unacceptable three-day cocaine bender." (p. 366) Though there is the "All-Time Strip Club Low: Caesar Salad Wrestling" on p. 93, with proof in picture!There are many fantastic b&w photographs throughout her life and her various careers! No nudity, though. There is a table of contents, an Introduction, 13 chapters, and a Conclusion. BUT NO filmography, NO index, and NO notes. The book has a few rough edges editing wise (e.g., count the "an MILF" and some typos).One really hopes LAC does a 2nd edition, that takes into account her return to hardcore adult films in 2018. Anyone wanting to know more about her career should read her IAFD & IMDB entries.
